HOW TO CREATIVELY MIX RED, WHITE, AND BLUE COCKTAILS FOR YOUR JULY 4TH CELEBRATIONS

July 12, 2022

Are you hosting a Fourth of July party? Or do you want to add a few celebratory cocktails to your bar’s drinks menu?

Serving a patriotic cocktail will make an impression and set the tone for festive fun! Make a big impact with these red, white, and blue cocktail, mocktail, and party ideas.

Fourth of July Festiveness: Red, White, and Blue Cocktails

Nothing says “Fourth of July” as effectively as red, white, and blue layers. Here are recipes for festive cocktails that do just that!

Grenadine, Lemonade, and Blue Curacao

A trick to getting defined layers of color in a cocktail is using liquids with different sugar concentrations. Work from the bottom from heaviest to lightest, with the sweetest being the densest.

  1. For the red layer, pour one ounce of grenadine into the bottom of a highball glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice cubes or crushed ice.
  3. Mix one ounce of vodka with three ounces of lemonade and gently pour the mixture over the ice.
  4. Top up with one ounce of blue curacao.

Patriotic Slushies

If you find pouring layered drinks a little too challenging, this Independence Day drink is a cinch!

Because the semi-frozen mixture is thicker, slushies will keep their colorful layers longer. Simply layer red, white, and blue slushies in funky cocktail glasses. Keep the slushies alcohol-free for a festive mocktail, or add white rum, vodka, or curacao (blue layer) to the mix before creating your masterpiece.

Red, White, and Blue Sangria

In a glass pitcher or big glass bowl, combine one bottle of white wine, one bottle of sparkling wine, and one cup of white vermouth with a whole lot of ice. Add raspberries, blueberries, and strawberry halves for patriotic red and blue.

If you have a star-shaped cookie cutter, cut the shapes out of pineapple slices for your celebratory sangria!

Fourth of July Mocktails

For similar non-alcoholic party drinks, use colored beverages such as Gatorade to get your festive layers.

  1. Pour one ounce of pomegranate cordial into your cocktail glass.
  2. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  3. Pour two ounces of Gatorade Cool Blue over the ice cubes.
  4. Top the mocktail with club soda.

Packed to the Rafters on the Fourth of July

Offering festive Fourth of July cocktails is a great way to entice customers to celebrate this holiday at your bar or restaurant. A few more ideas to attract more Independence Day business:

  • Offer a themed mixology course.
  • Have a competition for the best dressed patriotic patron.
  • All-day Happy Hour.
  • If you have the space, set out a few typical American backyard games like Kan Jam and Corn Hole.
  • Count the stars in a jar. Fill a mason jar with colorful cardboard stars. Patrons must write down their guess (and their e-mail address) for a chance of winning a prize.

Tips for Adding Festive Flair to Your Fourth of July Drinks

The red, white, and blue don’t have to come through in the drinks alone. Add chromatic cheer with decorations such as funky red and white striped straws or paper flags on cocktail sticks. Or, for some fireworks fun, add a sparkler or two to your Fourth of July cocktails!
